As we transition into the spring and summer months and life continues to get busier, we want to share a few quick tips we’ve picked up over the years regarding workout prep for the week.
- Plan your workout times for the week every Sunday evening. Trust us, we get it. Life can be extremely unpredictable. Family, work, special events, and many other things occupy our time and seem to change on a daily (sometimes hourly) basis. Look at the week’s schedule Sunday evening. Find pockets of time where you can make it to the box. Be flexible and always pack your workout gear. Target a morning WOD if needed. You’d be amazed how great you feel the rest of the day after a morning WOD. Most importantly, plan ahead and prioritize your workouts.
- Be selfish. We are unapologetic about this one. Many times, we have an army of people counting on our productivity. Everything from being high performing at work to making dinner for our family each night involves people who count on us. The best way to prepare is to absolutely be selfish with YOU! Your workouts are YOUR time to center your mind and prepare your body for performance. Strength is an “inside job”; stay focused on maintaining your body and fitness to perform at its best.
- Get plenty of quality rest. Don’t go to bed with a phone (light source) staring at your face. Pay attention to total hours of rest. As adults, we still need 6-8 hours of good rest. Look for ways to improve.
- Eat to perform. We commonly think of a statement from Christmas Abbott. It goes something like this… many of us are asking our body to do incredible things on a day-to-day basis, sort of like a high performance vehicle does. Yet, we are putting garbage in our engine (body) and asking it to perform at a high level. Eat well, perform well.
